Almost all of us have a distorted image of our body, often due to the importance our culture places on outward appearance and the onslaught of media images of airbrushed models and celebrities. On a daily basis, we talk to ourselves in ways we would never speak to another. Imagine speaking to a child the way you speak to yourself about your body. It would devastate and squelch a child. It affects you similarly, causing stress and emotional pain in your body, which can make improving your health or losing weight even more difficult. My guest will be Kay Wilson, Certified Health and Wellness Coach accredited by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. Kay received her training to practice Health Coaching at the Institute for Integrative Nutritition, which is the only nutrition school integrating all the different dietary theories - combining the knowledge of traditional philosophies with modern concepts like the USDA food pyramid, the glycemic index, the zone and raw foods. Kay and I will talk about the ways you can love your body, from accepting it for the amazing creation that it is, to nourishing it to give it strength and energy.

After nearly 6 years in healthcare, Jenn abandoned her full time career with one inkling thought in her mind: I simply can’t ignore my passion. It is time for me to shine! It was then in 2008 that Jenn likes to say she woke up. After living in a world of chronic dieting, disordered eating and depleted confidence, Jenn was ready to step fully into who she was. Discovering a book titled Intuitive Eating led Jenn to embracing her health, her body and her mind and making them a top priority. Fast forward nearly three years and Jenn has built a successful health coaching practice and website, a healthy living blog, has lost nearly 60 pounds (and kept them off!), and is pursuing her dream as a holistic health and nutrition coach at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. For more than twenty years, Dr. Allen Schoen has observed the complex emotions and behaviors of animals, along with the powerful transformation that takes place when human beings and animals open their hearts to each other. In his veterinary practice, he has witnessed miraculous medical recoveries in both animals and humans, as well as an incredible healing bond between the two. Most important, hes learned that love and compassion may be the most effective healing tools of all. Now he offers a moving testament to this remarkable relationship in KINDRED SPIRITS: How the Remarkable Bond Between Humans and Animals Can Change the Way We Live. Allen Schoen is a true pioneer. As a student and then as a young and idealistic veterinarian, he faced critics at every turn for his unorthodox beliefs, including his assertion that animals have feelings and emotions. Though schooled in conventional veterinary medicine, he instinctively knew there was more to treating animals than medicine, surgery or euthanasia. He also knew that they were -- like us -- sentient beings. Angered by what he felt was a lack of compassion, he became a vocal advocate for more sensitive treatment. He also explored and embraced revolutionary research that others ignored, including groundbreaking work on the physical and psychological benefits of human/animal relationships. Today, as a self-described "integrative holistic veterinarian," Dr. Schoen takes a bold approach to preventing and healing disease: He merges alternative therapies like nutrition, acupuncture and chiropractic, with tender, compassionate care. The results have been nothing less than astounding.

After struggling for years with her weight, a thyroid issue, persistent constipation and working out and not achieving the results she wanted, Elise learned that even though she thought that she was taking good care of herself, she really wasn’t. Today, Elise feels energized, lean and has learned how to eliminate yo-yo dieting by simply changing her overall approach to health and wellness. Elise received her training to practice Health Coaching at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, which is the only nutrition school integrating all the different dietary theories—combining the knowledge of traditional philosophies with modern concepts like the USDA food pyramid, the glycemic index, the Zone and raw foods. Elise is certified as a Health Coach by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and is a trained facilitator.
